Driving to Success

ABA Training Ltd’s Driving to Success course is tailored to incorporate both the ‘VRQ Level 2 BTEC Award in Transporting Passengers by Taxi and Private Hire’(knowledge based) and ‘NVQ Level 2 in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving’ (competency based) qualifications.

By combining the two, people will be tested for what they know and what they do, against national standards.

Learners will have the option of taking the VRQ exam or just the NVQ.

How does it work

The training is an 10 week course, consisting of a variety of training sessions and on the job assessments. The 4 training sessions are:

  • Customer service
  • Equal opportunities and disability awareness
  • Safety and carriage of luggage
  • Regulations

Each workshop is 3 hours in duration and will take into account busy working times. We recommend times between 10am and 1pm or 2pm through to 5pm. Evening courses will be run with sufficient demand.

The NVQ side of the training has seven mandatory units which must be met, these are:

  • Health and safety
  • Drive Taxi and PHV vehicles safely
  • Customer service
  • Deal with difficult passengers
  • Deal with emergencies and incidents
  • Provide a service for people who require assistance*
  • Transport children and young persons

Two further units must be taken from a selection of eight, examples include:

  • Working with others
  • Develop and maintain your work skills and knowledge
  • Transporting luggage and parcels
  • Process fares
* PATS training certificates would count towards this unit.

This course is perfectly suited to Hackney cab drivers, PHV drivers, Chauffeurs, Controllers, transport managers, team leaders and general managers will all find this training useful and relevant to their roles.

The aim of Driving to Success is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of individuals who are employed in providing a passenger transport service by road. The aim of the training is to provide learners with:-
